The Philharmonic Society was found in1921. The architect P. Jaquau constructed the building of the Big Hall in 1834-39. At present time the Philharmonic Society comprises two symphony orchestras. Such world famous conductors and musicians as E. Mravinsky, K. Zanderling, D. Oistrakh, E. Svetlanov, Y. Temirkanov, S. Richter, and M. Rostropovitch performed in the Big Hall.

It was established in 1949 in the house of V. Engelhard constructed in the middle of the 18th century. F. List, K. Shuman, P. Viardo, A. Rubinshtein, as well as modern composers such as A. Shnitke, L. Prigozhin, and G. Banshchikov performed here.
The Opera Hall of The Conservatorium
Address: 3 Teatralnaya Square Metro: Nevsky Prospekt Booking office open: 11 a.m.to 7 p.m. Matinee begins at 12 p.m. Night performance begins at 6.30 p.m. In this Hall opened in 1923 a lot of eminent singers, musicians and conductors revealed their gifts. The opera house was built by architect V. Nickol in 1891-96 as a part of the architectural ensemble. In fact the St.Petersburg Conservatory is the oldest musical institution of higher education in Russia.
Graduates of the Conservatory include world-famous singers Yelena Obraztsova, Yevgeny Nesterenko; celebrated conductors Yuri Temirkanov, Valery Gergiev and many others who now represent the Russian performing art. With it's synthesis of a choir, a symphonic orchestra, a training centre and a concert hall with excellent acoustic properties and a historical organ, the Capella Concert Hall became a unique phenomena in the world.
Every year music festivals are held in the Capella Concert Hall. Some of them have become traditions like Nevsky Choral Assemblies, Schubertiada and S.V.Rakhmaninov Festival.
